The Mocha Chip Pie and the Spiced-Chai Cake



Every month, our award-winning pastry chef’s combine their talents to come up with a pie and cake to feature for as our Pie and Cake of the Month. This month we are featuring a Mocha Chip Pie & a Chocolate Spiced-Chai Cake. These fun fall flavors celebrate the end of summer and the beginning of autumn!



The Chocolate Spiced-Chai Cake is layered with a moist and delicious chocolate cake. The cake is then Frosted with a light and airy Chai buttercream hinted with a creamy spiced flavor. We took this cake one step further and added chocolate ganache between every layer and all around outside the cake.

The Mocha Chip Pie is dedicated to the true coffee lovers who want to indulge their senses and experience chocolate and coffee at its very best. Amphora Bakery created this wondrously decadent pie layering rich fudge and coffee beans over a chocolaty cookie crust. The pie is topped with a creamy mocha filling & a silky whipped cream. In case that isn’t enough chocolaty-coffee goodness for you, we finish our sweetened whipped cream topping with a chocolate chips and fudge drizzle.

Welcome to Amphora Bakery



We can’t start our blog without a virtual tour and talking about the Amphora Bakery Story.

Amphora Bakery was originally created to provide freshly baked bread, cakes and pastries for Amphora Restaurant in Vienna. Indeed, between 1977 and 1988, the bakery was located within the restaurant.

Soon the demand for Amphora's bakery products was so great that the Bilidas and Cholakis families decided in 1988 to expand the bakery to a separate retail store, located in Vienna, adjacent to the Amphora Restaurant. 

By 2003 it became apparent that a larger bakery was necessary to satisfy the ever increasing demand for Amphora’s baked goods.  The search began for a unique space to house not only the needed larger production and baking facility but also a retail café. That search ended with a warehouse space located in Herndon that has now been transformed into a luxurious bakery and café with a state of the art kitchen visible from both the main retail floor but also a 900 foot mezzanine. Not only does the new bakery provide fascinating viewing perspectives over pastry team’ artistic endeavors, but also additional space within which birthday parties, tours and workshops are hosted.

From our modest beginnings, the bakery today has grown to employ over 20 pastry chefs, decorators and artisan bread bakers. Amphora specializes in spectacular European style creations including cakes, pastries, and Danish and artisan breads, with an emphasis on traditional baking and decorating techniques. The bakery's collection now includes not only delicious cakes and pastries, but special occasion cakes including weddings, anniversaries, bridal and baby showers, holidays, adult and children's parties, religious occasions and graduations that are works of art.
